Back in October of 2010, Cryptic Studios announced that their Superhero MMO “Champions Online” would be moving to a Free-to-Play model – A model which has proven successful for Dungeons & Dragons Online and Lord of the Rings Online, both games substantially boosted their player base after dropping monthly subscription fees.
Like the other Free-to-Play MMOs, Champions Online: Free For All will offer unlimited game play with access to all content except the “Special Adventure Packs” at no cost, or monthly subscription fees. Players will however have the option of purchasing Adventure Packs, Items, Additional Powers and Costumes at any time, while a $14.99 monthly subscription fee will remain available for those who want access to just about everything in the game.
Champions Online: Free For All went live on January the 25th and the Gameclient is currently being mirrored on 3FL.
More information about the Free-to-Play Model can be found on the official website.
